Wolverines back into the Big Time

Sparty better watch out because the Wolverines are back - baby. MSU had better work on their defense because the three taters will be flying when they play the Maize and Blue. The Hoosiers have become the Loosiers because of the boys from Ann Arbor. Wes, change your allegiance back to the home town boys. B,J &A I am happy to say you still bleed Maize and Blue. Jeff, I'm calling you and your Sparty friends out!!

Calling us out? To where? The Big Dance? You guys are like a high school girl who just got back from winter break with a whole new wardrobe, bronze fake-n-bake tan and a pair of new Uggs. The problem is that it's gonna take a lot more than a superficial image lift to make any guy want to invite her out to any dance....

Dude, the last time UM went dancing was in 89 ....20 YEARS AGO! when Wes and I were still trying to figure out whether or not we would come back into the Maltby studio 54 or shoot a few more buckets with all the other losers.

Losers....let's figure that one out. You know it wasn't till years later that we figured out that until I shaved the spike and lost the tan khakis, and Wes started slickin on some Old Spice and grew into the chompers....we made it happen. But the road was looooong. And so is the one for UM bball.

So until you actually are part of the "65" and win something meaningful (not talking fball but I know somehow this will change subjects later inevitably) don't mention your ball club in the same sentence with State...just like the loser Jeff or Wes that wouldn't even think about approaching Erica McGuire or Andrea Geier. No way. Way out of our league!

and one more thing: Get ready to get SEAL CLUBBED in A2 when IZZO comes down.

it's funny how our lives have been so guided and influenced by sports. sports and religion. the two are almost jokingly similar. most of my childhood memories are either about sports or church. the apostles and the fab five were thought of as equally spiritual to me.

jefe, when you switched from a diehard michigan fan to a diehard spartan fan almost overnight, it was like amy grant going secular. i think we all felt a little betrayed. but in the end it has turned out alright. we're still great friends, right? and you even taught some of us how to love an old enemy. i think more than one of us were secretly rooting for state during the exciting flintstones run. and that funny msu football coach; what was his name? bill gaines has pretty slippery feet on the bandwagon especially. now he's just talking a little trash, fab fab style, because it's been sad being a UM basketball fan the last decade, and they're finally starting to win some games. and at least it will make for some pretty exciting um-state games and damn i wish i could be in the izzone for that!

Who's who? (From an outside perspective)

Imagine yourself in the corporate world. Your boss, Mr. Moneybags has been a steady money maker for years. No one has ever challenged him. Then change comes like none other. Surrounded in integrity and commitment, his name: IZZO. Mr.Moneybags takes his eyes off of his ASSests and the next thing you know in state recruiting of employers (players) turns to Mr. IZZO because players want to be coached, not used as an experiment to see if they can turn things around in the company. Being coached means you become a man, not a name that fades in time. In this case for UM profits are up and things are good, but be careful because Moneybags knows IZZO has longevity and it's overtaking his program steadily. Be careful Moneybags, if you get in too deep, you won't get out and the federal Government wont bail you out. I'm sure your donors can't even spare you.
As for MSU, you will stand because you're steady, reliable and when the market gets bad, your integrity (IZZO) holds strong.

As for Indiana, it will take time to heal. trust is low, integrity is absent. Players/Fans remain unsure. Shout as loud as you can for the hoosiers, but the glory is gone. You are one in the crowd, a hard place to be. No one telling you how good you look, how unique you are, how much they think of you. You are experiencing what it means to be "Run of the Mill."

As for MSU, be glad you have the boss you do in IZZO, he is like none other. He even makes Pete Caroll look like a an 8th grader gelling his hair to impress the girls he's about to recruit for his football team. He's the best there is. If he goes, so does the program.

Only two other names i can think of still coaching that IZZO is on the heals of when it comes to coaching (JO PA, Coach K). If he stays, he'll get there.

I'd like to see UM do well again in both sports. But they are like the lions, quick fixes don't work. We'll see.

Last night I had a dream. I saw a Spartan cutting out the heart of a wolverine and hoosier. He sucked the blood from the aortas and shouted "Victory!!! "

In Indiana, basketball is a constant. We pack the gyms no matter how bad the team is b/c we know they are playing their heart out and representing the state. We are conservative. When Sampson was hired, we were all skeptical because of all the baggage he brought, and we turned out to be right. After last season (kind of like after the last eight years) we were left stunned, wondering if it could get any worse. Sampson left the program with nothing: demoralized, penalized, embarrassed. Enter Tom Crean. In spite of the task in front of him he stepped up and said "this is my dream job". He took over a team that had two players returning (both of which barely played last season), and which had lost every top recruit that had committed to coming to Indiana. He arrived on campus and started meeting personally with students, staff, and fans. He took a tour through smalltown Indiana, going into barbershops, stores, and talking to people who live and breathe Indiana basketball. And before he even coached a game "T-om Crea-n" was being chanted from the rafters in Assembly Hall. We knew our team would struggle this year and maybe next year, but we know we have a coach that will demand his players play hard, go to class, and stay out of trouble. This is the start of a new era and other Big Ten teams should be worried. Crean is the new Izzo. Indiana is back. My blood runneth Crimson & Crean. (in basketball that is)

Wes, this sounds like the "Hickory" BB team. Maybe he could recruit Jimmie Chitwood and run the 'picket fence". Maybe Tom Crean should change his last name to Cream, since that is what happens to the Hoosiers everytime they play BB. The Maize and Blue have come alive and the dynasty is just beginning. The Izzo Zone will become the dizzo zone when the Wolverines are done with them.
